"First, I'd like to thank the team at
Unreality-SF.net for organising this,
from sifting through the initial round
of nominations to administering a
very well-run online poll. Second, my
thanks to everyone who cast their vote
for my story when there were nine
other equally deserving works to
choose from on the ballot, all by
immensely talented writers. And to
my fellow scribes: I tip my hat to all
of you."

- David Mack
Author, Gods of Night (winner)

"Thanks for everyone who voted for
me. Looking at the shortlist, it's clear
there's some really strong, distinctive
tie-in work being done. It's great to
see a revitalised Star Trek book line
doing so well, it's great to see Big
Finish with so many Doctor Who titles
on the shortlist. With so many TV
shows and movies aimed squarely at
fanboys these days, it's fitting that
tie-in books have evolved over the
years from bland novelisations to
stories that really add to their
franchise and try to move it on. It's
unfair to single people out, but when
you see the fresh eye Eddie Robson's
bringing to Doctor Who and
Christopher Bennett's Star Trek books
that put the science and exploration
front and centre, you realise that
there are real rising stars and
distinctive voices around. There's
some great writing represented on
that shortlist, and I'm delighted to
be included on it and to have done
so well."

- Lance Parkin
Author, The Eyeless (second place)
