27th May 2008 | NEWS | EYELESS AUTHOR BLOG

Lance Parkin, the author of the recently announced Doctor Who novel The Eyeless (see below), has started a blog related to the book. He hopes that it will "build up into an exciting 'making of' thing", but if that's not your cup of tea, he offers the alternative that he'll instead "be posting pictures of kittens".

Either way, it's worth a look, and can be found at
theeyeless.blogspot.com.

25th May 2008 | NEWS | NEW TENTH DOCTOR BOOKS

Online retailer Amazon have listed titles and authors of three new Doctor Who books featuring the Tenth Doctor, due for release in September. In addition, in online blogs and message board threads, some of the respective authors have revealed details of the stories.

The books are:

BEAUTIFUL CHAOS (by Gary Russell)

THE EYELESS (by Lance Parkin)

Lance Parkin, on DoctorWhoForum.com - "The Eyeless doesn't feature Donna, although that's absolutely not a season four spoiler or anything. My understanding is that at least one of the others in this batch does have Donna.

"[O]f all the Doctor Who books I've written, this is the one with the *shortest* brief I've ever had
from an editor and there was precisely one change made by 'Cardiff' - they didn't like my original title, The Hidden Fortress. Secondly ... while the books have a larger audience than the NA/EDAs and that audience has a lot of children in it, I've written the Doctor Who book I wanted to write. Kids should find plenty to enjoy in it, but this is a Doctor Who book that *I* would enjoy reading, written in the same style and spirit as all my previous Doctor Who books. If you liked those, then there's a very good chance you'll ike The Eyeless.

"I delivered the book a couple of weeks ago, I'm very proud of it. So proud, I've broken
the habit of a lifetime and set up a blog to talk about it. More details soon."

THE STORY OF MARTHA (by Dan Abnett - and others)

Dan Abnett, on his blog - "For all of you out there in TV land, you may be interested to know that in the coming months, I will be penning [...] a Doctor Who book which will recount the exploits of Martha Jones during the year when the Master held the Doctor captive and she roamed the Earth (ie, the end of season three). The latter will not be all my own work, as I am writing the framing sequence and story into which other stories, by other hands will be set. I'm looking forward to it. I have a soft spot for Martha."

12th May 2008 | NEWS | TORCHWOOD BLURBS

In addition to the covers of the three upcoming Torchwood books, as reported by Unreality SF yesterday, Amazon.com also has brief descriptions for those novels.

PACK ANIMALS: The seventh novel in the bestselling Torchwood range from BBC Books. Shopping for wedding gifts with your fiance is enjoyable, unless like Gwen you witness a Weevil massacre in the shopping centre. A trip to the zoo is a great day out, until a date goes tragically wrong and Ianto is badly injured by stolen alien tech. And Halloween is a day of fun and frights, before unspeakable monsters invade the streets of Cardiff and it's no longer a trick or a treat for the terrified population. Torchwood can control small groups of scavengers, but now someone has given large numbers of predators a season ticket to Earth!

SKYPOINT: The eighth novel in the bestselling Torchwood range from BBC Books. SkyPoint is the latest high-rise addition to the ever-developing Cardiff skyline. It's the most high-tech, avant-garde apartment block in the city. And it's where Rhys Williams is hoping to find a new home for himself and Gwen. When Torchwood discover that residents have been going missing from the tower block, one of the team gets her dream assignment. Soon, SkyPoint's latest newly married tenants are moving in. And Toshiko Sato finally gets to make a home with Owen Harper. Then something comes out of the wall...

ALMOST PERFECT: The ninth novel in the bestselling Torchwood range from BBC Books. Emma is 30, single and, frankly, desperate. She woke up this morning with nothing to look forward to but another evening of unsuccessful speed-dating. But now she has a new weapon in her quest for Mr Right. And it's made her almost perfect! Ianto Jones woke up this morning with no memory of last night. He went to work, where he caused amusement, suspicion, and a little bit of jealousy. Because Ianto Jones woke up this morning in the body of a woman! And he's looking just about perfect! And Jack Harkness has always had his doubts about Perfection...
