These are the ten stories that received the most nominations for the annual Story of the Year poll last week, in alphabetical order:

Children of the Storm by Kirsten Beyer (a Star Trek novel – Pocket Books, June 2011)
Choices of One by Timothy Zahn (a Star Wars novel – Del Rey, July 2011)
The Cold Equations by Simon Guerrier (a Doctor Who audio drama – Big Finish, June 2011)
Darth Plagueis by James Luceno (a Star Wars novel – Del Rey, January 2012)
The First Wave by Simon Guerrier (a Doctor Who audio drama – Big Finish, November 2011)
The House of the Dead by James Goss (a Torchwood radio play – BBC Radio 4, July 2011)
Rise Like Lions by David Mack (a Star Trek novel – Pocket Books, November 2011)
To the Death by Nicholas Briggs (a Doctor Who audio drama – Big Finish, March 2011)
Watching the Clock by Christopher L. Bennett (a Star Trek novel – Pocket Books, May 2011)
Over the next seven days, you can vote for one favourite from this shortlist. The story with the most votes at the end of the week gets the Story of the Year title, and its writer gets a trophy. There’s also a trophy for the runner-up.
Vote here:
[Form]
NB: If you tell us your email address, you’ll be entered into a draw to win an Amazon gift voucher, because we had some budget spare and we like our readers and we were curious about whether offering an incentive would affect participation. But we don’t want people arbitrarily choosing a story they’re not actually interested in just to maybe win free stuff, so both bits of the form are optional – if you just want to vote, or just want to enter the draw, please only fill in half.
Rules: The vote closes at midnight UK time on Sunday 1st April. You can choose one story only. The form logs your IP and if we suspect you’ve voted more than once, we’ll ignore all your votes. One participant will be chosen at random from those who submitted an email address as the winner of a £10 Amazon.co.uk gift voucher (or a voucher of equivalent value for the local Amazon website of their choosing if the winner is located outside the UK), and will be contacted via email shortly after the vote closes. If the winner of the Amazon voucher does not respond within 48 hours of the email being sent, a replacement winner will be chosen at random from the remaining entrants.
Since we have to vote for only one, Kirsten Beyer’s “CHILDREN OF THE STORM” was out of this world. If you have not gotten into this girls novels, she has done amazing things with carrying the STAR TREK VOYAGER brand on. I can’t wait for her next book. Go get ‘em Kirsten!
